Pride Month: Standing Together, Speaking Out, Supporting Always.
Pride Month is more than just rainbow flags and parades. It’s a time to honour the LGBTQIA+ community, its history, resilience, diversity, and the ongoing fight for equality, representation, and human dignity.
Pride is about visibility for those who have been made to feel invisible. It's about giving voice to those who’ve had to whisper or hide their truth. It's about remembering that love is love, identity is personal, and everyone deserves to live without fear.
But behind the colour and celebration, there are still deep challenges:
Mental health struggles are disproportionately high in LGBTQIA+ communities. Rejection by families, bullying in schools, exclusion in faith communities, and being "othered" in society can lead to anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicidality.
In schools and colleges, many young LGBTQIA+ people still face bullying, misgendering, and silencing, which chips away at self-worth.
Families can be a place of healing, or harm. Many face rejection from their loved ones for simply being who they are.
In workplaces, discrimination, microaggressions, and lack of representation can leave individuals feeling unsafe, unseen, and unheard.
Recent changes in laws across parts of the world have restricted rights, healthcare access, and protections for LGBTQIA+ individuals—especially trans and non-binary people. This creates fear, regression, and trauma in communities who already feel targeted.
Isolation is real. Many people suffer in silence, feeling like they don't belong anywhere. That’s why recognising Pride Month matters—because it says:
You are not alone. You are seen. You are worthy. And you belong.
Pride brings us together—to march, to speak up, to celebrate, and to hold space for one another. It’s a time for solidarity, for connection, and for change.
Pride Month Reminder: Love Shouldn't Hurt
Even in 2025, being part of the LGBTQ+ community too often means carrying a weight that straight and cisgender people never have to bear, the weight of shame, guilt, and insecurity just for being who you are.
Many LGBTQ+ individuals grow up internalising messages that tell them they are "wrong," "sinful," or "unnatural." These aren't just words, they become deeply embedded beliefs that shape how people see themselves. It’s not just about coming out, it’s about coming to terms with a lifetime of rejection, misunderstanding, or fear of being hurt.
Pride isn’t just a celebration. It’s a lifeline.
Because when you're told you're not enough, by society, family, religion, or peers, it can lead to overwhelming mental health struggles. Depression, anxiety, and identity crises are common.
And tragically, suicide rates among LGBTQ+ youth remain significantly higher than their non-LGBTQ+ peers. According to studies, LGBTQ+ youth are over four times more likely to attempt suicide. This isn’t because of who they are, it’s because of how they are treated.
So this Pride month , while we celebrate joy, love, and visibility, let’s also hold space for the silent battles too many still fight. Let’s talk about the real cost of homophobia, transphobia, and stigma — and why affirmation, allyship, and advocacy still matter.
Pride is protest.
Pride is mental health.
Pride is survival.
If you're struggling, you're not alone. You are never too much. You are notbroken. And you are so loved.
